8th Grade Science Fair
Mrs. Sulkin
ASSIGNMENT Every year 8th Grade Science begins with a Science Fair. Each student conducts an experiment and makes a display of the experiment for student and parent tours to be held in early November. Your assignment is:
WHAT IS AN EXPERIMENT?
*An experiment uses the step by step procedure known as the Scientific Method (question, hypothesis, experiment, results, conclusion)
*Answers a very specific question
*Keeps all conditions constant except for one
*Measures(temperature, size, weight, time, distance, volume, etc.) to determine results
*Draws a conclusion from the results
HOW TO CHOOSE A TOPIC
This project gives you the opportunity to choose what you want to learn about. Take advantage of this chance and really work hard to choose something you care about. Make sure that your question can be answered by a "real" experiment. Will your experiment lead to further interest and questions? Expect to give your very best effort to get a good grade on this project. Ideas and results are more important than fancy equipment, please do not feel that you have to spend money to do well.
Ethical Considerations: It is important that your project reflect a respect for the people who will be viewing it. School rules and policy must be followed. Subjects which promote drugs, alcohol, tobacco, violence or offensive subjects will not be permitted. And above all, you must not harm people or animals with your experiment.
