STEPS TO FOLLOW WHEN PREPARING YOUR PROPOSAL

I. Develop a scientific question that can be answered by an experiment:

  1. Brainstorm topics of interest to you
  2. Make observations
  3. Research-library, Internet, talk to people, home, etc.

II. Make a hypothesis based on your question:

  1. Base your hypothesis on knowledge gained through research and observation.
  2. State what you think will happen in your experiment?

III. Design an experiment:

  1. Your experiment should test one variable and include CONTROLS (to be sure other factors aren't causing the results).
  2. Plan the experiment: What will be done, when, what equipment is needed?

IV. Prepare a proposal

  1. Complete the Science Fair Proposal form
  2. Make a 11" X 17" poster which shows what you think your display will look like
  3. Display poster and form in the classroom by due date in September
