Welcome to the 7th grade! I am looking forward to working with both you and your parents/guardians this year. Please read through this information with your parents/guardians and keep this academic plan at home for future reference. Please return the signature section, signed by both you and your parents/guardians.

Subjects taught:

Language Arts: Under this subject we will focus extensively on the writing process. Students will be expected to write many drafts that focus on all aspects of quality writing. Through mini-lessons, students will learn grammar/spelling as well as organization, and developing style within their writing.

Reading: Students will be required to bring their reading spiral and their book with them to school every day. They will read in class every day. We will also focus on the strategies that good readers do through analysis of short stories, novels, and listening to pieces read aloud.

Social Studies: The seventh grade year will be divided into two halves. During the first part of the year, students will be studying Middle Eastern and European Medieval History. During the second half of the year students will be studying Washington State History. Students will complete individual and group projects throughout the year. They will also be given exams over the regions of study.

Classroom Policies

Students are required to write down homework assignments in their planner
Students should expect homework on a consistent basis-please check your student’s planner for due dates
Late work will be accepted but the highest grade possible for that assignment will be 70%
Work missed due to an absence will be accepted with no penalty, however, it is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements with me to receive the missed work.

Students worked in groups to determine the many ways they can show respect to themselves, their peers, and their teacher.
