Using the curriculum Connected Mathematics Project we will be studying a range of topics this year including:
- Introductory algebra (manipulating variables, using coordinate graphs, analyzing graphs and tables, writing and solving equations)
- Ratio, proportion, and percent
- Similarity
- Probability and expected value
- Three-dimensional measurement (volume and surface area of prisms, cylinders, cones and sheres)
- Operation of integers
Connected Mathematics is a research-based, problem-centered mathematics curriculum created specifically for middle school learners. The primary goals are for students to make sense of mathematical concepts, become proficient with basic skills, and communicate their reasoning and understanding clearly. It is a challenging mathematics program that is closely aligned with the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements.

You alone are responsible for all work in this class. That means if you are absent, it is up to you to find out what you missed, both in class and for homework. There are several ways to do this:
- Math Flowcharts -the class work and homework assigned for each investigation is listed on a flowchart; you should have a copy on your binder, and there are extras in class
- Homework Hotline-Mrs. Berreth's voicemail is frequently updated with a recording of the current homework. The phone number is 676-6470, ext. 5664
- Class Website-You can find a weekly assignment calendar listing all daily assignments, as well as upcoming quizzes, tests, and/or projects on the class website. Just go to
