Whatcom Site Council Minutes for October 10, 2005

Attendance: Jeff Coulter, Ann Buswell, Sara Strommer, Beth Schille, Rick Read, Katherine Morgan, Chris Elliott, Doug Robertson

Discussion of Strategic Plan progress (Jeff):
Impact on reading scores, DRP scores down, WASL scores up
Math: 33% increase over ’03-’04 of 7th graders qualifying for algebra; increase in % at standard on WASL
Writing: Increase in 6th grade scores on district writing assessment
WASL scores increased
Increase in 8th grade scores on district writing assessment
Environment: Decrease in number of Fs from last year, fewer demerits, fewer suspensions, discussion of impact of Visions program on suspension rates.

School development: Data from WASL, DRP, MAP, other assessments drives what we’re going to do differently to know our kids. WASL strand scores discussion led to staff focusing on vocabulary as a result of lower WASL scores in comprehension but higher in analysis and interpretation

Start-up: Discussion of C.A.T. Day, mailing schedules home one week prior to school start, helped minimize first day anxiety

Electives: After-school clubs, looking for advisors, parents could advise—Ann to put note in newsletter

Site Council work for this year:
Suggestions: have parents come in and talk to classes about careers, bullying survey follow-up
